My husband had lung transplant operation earlier this year, so it was recommended all family members to take flu jab. My son is 13 and so flu jab is not provided in school, so he had flu jab at Burnham Health Centre. He was given nasal spray one. Two months later, now my daughter’s flu jab is planned in primary school, and School immunisation team contacted me to say my daughter shouldn’t take nasal spray flu jab, because it contains live vaccine, which gives risk to my husband to catch the virus. I told her that it should be ok as my son was given nasal one at GP, but she said we should check with my husband‘s doctor, so we did so, and the doctor said my daughter can’t have nasal one! Oh no... Why GP give my son nasal one? They know my husband is post lung transplant patient - obviously that’s the reason for my son could get the flu jab appointment at GP.... I really can’t believe the GP didn’t check before giving a jab, It could cause a life-threatening condition on my husband.
When my husband became ill and died of cancer 4 years ago I was appalled at the level of support from the GP practice where we lived in South Oxfordshire. Following his death I moved to my current address and registered with Burnham Health Centre with no great expectation.
Personally, I’m not a regular user of the Heath service. I have a repeat prescription and an annual review. My experience at Burnham is totally different. The receptionists are pleasant when I call for my annual appointment and when I arrive they smile and are welcoming. The Nurses and Doctors are human beings and appear to be genuinely interested and very caring. They know my name, they use my name and speak to me on equal terms. I feel comfortable and firmly believe this is an excellent example of how a Health Centre should be run. Burnham Health Centre has restored my confidence in the Health Service and gets a score of 100% - well done!
My dad is 85 his feet swollen sore to Dr and nurses to bandage his feet as whipping . Nothing happens.
Again to chase doctors to see if they will deal with it

I have had the text message from the surgery telling me I’m eligible for the flu vaccination back on 15th October.
I’ve been eligible for a number of years for the vaccination and this year am classed as clinically extremely vulnerable and shielded for the requisite time earlier this year due to covid.
It took almost an hour for me to get through to a receptionist who told I wasn’t eligible for a flu jab after all, which I found strange due to being eligible previous years and in the highest risk covid category.
Literally 10 minutes after I get off the phone to the surgery I get another text from the surgery telling me to call them as I’m eligible for the flu jab.
Another hour to get through to a different receptionist who tells me she could see I was classed as the highest risk but “not high enough” for the flu jab.
My wife also had the same text message and when the receptionist checked she wasn’t classed as high risk OR eligible for the flu jab!
Totally unacceptable.
Recent experience with getting whooping cough vaccine, the nurse was just amazing, so calming, brilliant customer service. I am not good with needle and often feel awful during and after, the nurse managed me so that I overcome this with ease. Well done great job. Sadly I didn’t catch her name!
